Is It Possible to Remove Visible Watermark From Image?

Unfortunately – YES. Here are tips to protect your photo from watermark removing.

1) Classic watermark for image is a sign text in the one of the corners of the image. If this text is not big – the image can be cropped. It’s became smaller, but do not contain watermark anymore. This is the first way how your photos can be stolen.

Tips to avoid: use multiple watermarks, covering your entire image. It can be the text with a 10-20% opacity (lightly visible) level. This is enough for the 100% protecting of the image.

If you are a freelance designer – this way of protecting allow you to show design prototype to the client and do not afraid that it can be used without payment.
If it’s not suitable because of some reasons, just move watermark away from the border (10-15% of the image size) to make image crop.

2) The second way to remove watermark - color replacement.
If the color of the watermark is bright and clearly differs from background - the color of the watermark can be automatically replaced by dark background color.

Tips to avoid: use 50% opacity levels (or some effects like “emboss”) – this will mix watermark and background and will make automatic color replacement very difficult.
Minus: the image still can be cropped if it’s too close to the border.

3) Image fragment replacement. If you have put copyright to a monotonous part of the image (dark area, grass, sky, etc) – this part can be replaced by the similar part from the same image without damage for image.

Tips to avoid: Add watermark to the heterogeneous part of the image.
Minus: difficult to do during batch watermarking images.

N.B.

- Don’t forget to add EXIF info regarding your copyright. This can play a final role in a case of dispute about copyright of the photos.

- If your images were stolen and published somewhere online, you can send the request to the Google Abuse Report System. The request contains information about intruder’s website and subject of abuse.
